Mock Trial

Mock Trial started in Mediapolis in the spring of 1994. Two teams have participated each year. In an official Mock Trial competion, teams can consist of 8 to 10 people.

To prepare for Mock Trial the team members are first divided into their parts. There are four attorneys and three witnesses for each side. These attorneys are responsible for two things. These may include a direct exam, a cross exam, or an opening or closing statement.

In Mock Trial the case is carried out just like the real thing. Each team will go against another Mock Trial team from a diiferent school. These teams have never gone against each other before so many things are suprises. But before the trial can happen, there is much preparation to do. Mediapolis Mock Trial meet as much as possible. Meetings were held Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 7:45 to 8:30 over a span of about 2 months.

During the trial, each team has 2 hours for their side of the case. During the trial you are judged by real judges or lawyers. There are two "grades" you recieve. The judges pass a verdict after the trial and give points for each lawyer's performance. These points are totaled up and the team with the most points at the end of the competition goes on to state.
